Fri 3rd Nov 2017 - Turtle Bay reports sales and Ebitda boost Turtle Bay reports sales and Ebitda boost: Caribbean restaurant group Turtle Bay has posted sales of £63.7m (2016 £47.0m) for the year ended 25 February 2017 according to accounts recently filed at Companies House. Group Ebitda before exceptional costs increased to £14.4m. Turtle Bay was founded in 2011 by Ajith Jayawickrema to offer guests “authentic food and drink inspired by the vibrant culture of the Caribbean”. Jayawickrema previously co-founded the Latin American restaurant chain Las Iguanas. In 2013, consumer brands specialist Piper invested £6m into Turtle Bay to help fund expansion. There are currently 40 Turtle Bay sites across the UK and two in Germany. During the year ended February 2017, the group opened nine UK restaurants, including second sites in Liverpool and Bristol as well as its first in Germany, in the city of Dresden. Since then it has continued to expand, opening a further five UK restaurants and a second German site in Oberhausen. New Turtle Bays will open in Colchester next month and Winchester in January. Jayawickrema said: “We are pleased to have delivered another strong set of financial results, which can only be done with the hard work and commitment of our fantastic team. Like all operators, we are currently trading in a challenging environment. But despite the pressures, we continue to grow and are choosing to minimise any price increases to customers as we build a sustainable business for the long term. We look forward to continuing to share the Turtle Bay experience with new and existing guests alike.”
